Bahar covers Nassau County politics for Newsday. Previously, she covered the NYPD for WNYC and Gothamist. As a first generation Iranian, she’s naturally skeptical about how the media represents people.
She’s reported on child sexual abuse in Staten Island and abortion access networks in rural Kentucky. Her freelance work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Vogue and other outlets.
Before pursuing journalism, Bahar worked in data analytics for Kantar and nonprofit communications for Acumen, freelancing for local and national outlets as an (emotionally) lucrative side hustle. She came to NYC via the Bay Area.
